Germany - Bielefeld to Cologne

We learned that the first lignite bricks were made by steam-driven presses in 1877 and by the 1900s there were about 30 factories producing small lignite bricks. They use opencast mining methods so many residents in small towns have had to be relocated over the years to enable this type of mining to occur.
